Narrative:
While on approach to runway 8L atl (on localizer (autoplt capture with autoplt engaged) initial assigned 5000 ft MSL but had been cleared for approach) atl approach. 'Air carrier X maintain 5000 ft we have an aircraft go through on south side (ie runway 9R).' he (aircraft Y) went completely north of runway 8L extended centerline. As I looked out my side window I had no trouble seeing aircraft at 10 O'clock about 1200 ft down. Said aircraft finally proceeded generally back towards south runway. When safe separation was observed on our (TCASII) and visually we started down from above the GS.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: WDB ACFT COUPLED AUTOPLT ON ILS APCH HAD TO LEVEL ACFT FOR ANOTHER ACFT PASSING UNDER. APCH CTLR WAS CTLING BOTH ACFT. TCASII ON TFC. WHEN INTRUDER WAS OUT OF THE WAY, RPTR CONTINUED APCH FROM ABOVE THE GS.
Narrative: WHILE ON APCH TO RWY 8L ATL (ON LOC (AUTOPLT CAPTURE WITH AUTOPLT ENGAGED) INITIAL ASSIGNED 5000 FT MSL BUT HAD BEEN CLRED FOR APCH) ATL APCH. 'ACR X MAINTAIN 5000 FT WE HAVE AN ACFT GO THROUGH ON S SIDE (IE RWY 9R).' HE (ACFT Y) WENT COMPLETELY N OF RWY 8L EXTENDED CTRLINE. AS I LOOKED OUT MY SIDE WINDOW I HAD NO TROUBLE SEEING ACFT AT 10 O'CLOCK ABOUT 1200 FT DOWN. SAID ACFT FINALLY PROCEEDED GENERALLY BACK TOWARDS S RWY. WHEN SAFE SEPARATION WAS OBSERVED ON OUR (TCASII) AND VISUALLY WE STARTED DOWN FROM ABOVE THE GS.
