Narrative:

Nosewheel would not extend. Did numerous recycling of gear, unusual attitudes, and still would not extend. I even bumped the runway with the main gear, but to no avail. The mechanic thinks a cable may have hung on the gear. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states it has been difficult to find out what caused the problem. Mechanic took off the cowling, reached in and wiggled a bit and the gear came down. It was later he noticed the cable was somewhat frayed. The insurance adjuster does not think the cable is the problem. 2 diverse opinions. Reporter had cut the engine prior to landing but it was still windmilling. Propeller was bent, gear doors scraped a bit, some of the nosewheel mechanism damaged. Aircraft is a cherokee arrow.
