Narrative:

While taxiing to the gate after landing at dfw, I turned too short and ran up against one or more railroad tie type construction barriers with the #4 main gear tire (forward, outboard right main gear tire). The tire received a cut in the sidewall and had to be changed. I think this event was caused by me misjudging my rate of turn. After landing on runway 13R at dfw, company ramp control said to plan a 10 min hold because our gate was occupied. Dfw ground control instructed me to taxi south on taxiway F and north on taxiway H to hold behind other company flts also waiting for gates. As I was sbound on taxiway F, ramp control said the gate was now open. I told ground and was instructed to make a 180 degree turn in the runway 36R runup pad, give way to another company flight, and taxi north on taxiway F again to hold short of taxiway 32. I made a right 90 degree turn into the runway 36R pad. During the turn I felt a bump. I was very surprised and at first was unsure what had caused the bump. I thought I had allowed enough room for the turn, but then I realized I must have hit one or more of the barriers. The following may have been contributing factors or factors affecting my performance, not to be construed as excuses for this event: this event happened at the end of a rather long and rather difficult day. I had been scheduled for more than 7 hours of flight time and almost 10 hours on duty. There were large thunderstorms approaching the airport that I was trying to beat in. Our arrival route was changed due to this WX as was our landing runway at a time when we were flying in a narrow thunderstorm-free corridor in and out of the clouds. I did not decide to land at dfw until we were almost to the OM of runway 13R. Although I was going slowly when this event happened, I was in a hurry to get turned around and to continue taxiing so I would not get blocked by other arriving flts. Darkness was approaching. This event happened at approximately XX25 pm CST. It was raining and I was taxiing with the windshield wipers on. There was lightning in all quadrants around the airport. The corner I was turning when this event happened was bounded by railroad tie type construction barriers that made a square corner rather than the usual rounded off or filleted corner. The dual 757/767 type rating means I can operate a 757, a 767-200 or a 767-300 airplane. Each of these airplanes have a different turn radius and a different perspective from the pilot's seat while maneuvering on the ground. To help prevent this type event in the future. I would suggest that pilots find a way to not feel hurried and also that all intxns and corners used for the movement of aircraft be filleted or rounded whether they are permanent pavement or temporary construction barriers.

Title: B-757 DAMAGES ONE TIRE IN TAXI PROC.

Narrative: WHILE TAXIING TO THE GATE AFTER LNDG AT DFW, I TURNED TOO SHORT AND RAN UP AGAINST ONE OR MORE RAILROAD TIE TYPE CONSTRUCTION BARRIERS WITH THE #4 MAIN GEAR TIRE (FORWARD, OUTBOARD R MAIN GEAR TIRE). THE TIRE RECEIVED A CUT IN THE SIDEWALL AND HAD TO BE CHANGED. I THINK THIS EVENT WAS CAUSED BY ME MISJUDGING MY RATE OF TURN. AFTER LNDG ON RWY 13R AT DFW, COMPANY RAMP CTL SAID TO PLAN A 10 MIN HOLD BECAUSE OUR GATE WAS OCCUPIED. DFW GND CTL INSTRUCTED ME TO TAXI S ON TXWY F AND N ON TXWY H TO HOLD BEHIND OTHER COMPANY FLTS ALSO WAITING FOR GATES. AS I WAS SBOUND ON TXWY F, RAMP CTL SAID THE GATE WAS NOW OPEN. I TOLD GND AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO MAKE A 180 DEG TURN IN THE RWY 36R RUNUP PAD, GIVE WAY TO ANOTHER COMPANY FLT, AND TAXI N ON TXWY F AGAIN TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY 32. I MADE A R 90 DEG TURN INTO THE RWY 36R PAD. I HAD BEEN SCHEDULED FOR MORE THAN 7 HRS OF FLT TIME AND ALMOST 10 HRS ON DUTY. THERE WERE LARGE TSTMS APCHING THE ARPT THAT I WAS TRYING TO BEAT IN. OUR ARR RTE WAS CHANGED DUE TO THIS WX AS WAS OUR LNDG RWY AT A TIME WHEN WE WERE FLYING IN A NARROW TSTM-FREE CORRIDOR IN AND OUT OF THE CLOUDS. I DID NOT DECIDE TO LAND AT DFW UNTIL WE WERE ALMOST TO THE OM OF RWY 13R. ALTHOUGH I WAS GOING SLOWLY WHEN THIS EVENT HAPPENED, I WAS IN A HURRY TO GET TURNED AROUND AND TO CONTINUE TAXIING SO I WOULD NOT GET BLOCKED BY OTHER ARRIVING FLTS. DARKNESS WAS APCHING. THIS EVENT HAPPENED AT APPROX XX25 PM CST. IT WAS RAINING AND I WAS TAXIING WITH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON. THERE WAS LIGHTNING IN ALL QUADRANTS AROUND THE ARPT. EACH OF THESE AIRPLANES HAVE A DIFFERENT TURN RADIUS AND A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE FROM THE PLT'S SEAT WHILE MANEUVERING ON THE GND. TO HELP PREVENT THIS TYPE EVENT IN THE FUTURE. I WOULD SUGGEST THAT PLTS FIND A WAY TO NOT FEEL HURRIED AND ALSO THAT ALL INTXNS AND CORNERS USED FOR THE MOVEMENT OF ACFT BE FILLETED OR ROUNDED WHETHER THEY ARE PERMANENT PAVEMENT OR TEMPORARY CONSTRUCTION BARRIERS.
