Cleared to descend to 2800 ft for approach to hsv. Descending through 3500 ft, got GPWS warning 'terrain, terrain, too low, too low.' executed immediate climb to 5000 ft. Approach and tower said they have had several alerts in that area.

Narrative: CLRED TO DSND TO 2800 FT FOR APCH TO HSV. DSNDING THROUGH 3500 FT, GOT GPWS WARNING 'TERRAIN, TERRAIN, TOO LOW, TOO LOW.' EXECUTED IMMEDIATE CLB TO 5000 FT. APCH AND TWR SAID THEY HAVE HAD SEVERAL ALERTS IN THAT AREA.
