Narrative:
In descent returning to sky acres airport (44N, millbrook, ny) navigating GPS direct on a southwest to northeast track overflying dutches county airport advisories from ny approach. My intention was to descend to 2700 ft MSL which is shown on the ny sectional as the ceiling of the pou class D airspace and then continued my descent into 44N once clear of the class D. As I descended through 2900 ft, controller requested that I maintain 2900 ft to remain clear of the class D. I climbed back up to 2900 ft and stayed there until clear. Unfortunately both the controller and I were busy enough that there was no time to make inquiries. I believe the controller was confused as to the actual ceiling of the pou class D airspace.

Title: APCH CTLR INTERVENED AND STOPPED PLT OF A PVT SMT FROM INADVERTENTLY PENETRATING CLASS D AIRSPACE.
Narrative: IN DSCNT RETURNING TO SKY ACRES ARPT (44N, MILLBROOK, NY) NAVING GPS DIRECT ON A SW TO NE TRACK OVERFLYING DUTCHES COUNTY ARPT ADVISORIES FROM NY APCH. MY INTENTION WAS TO DSND TO 2700 FT MSL WHICH IS SHOWN ON THE NY SECTIONAL AS THE CEILING OF THE POU CLASS D AIRSPACE AND THEN CONTINUED MY DSCNT INTO 44N ONCE CLR OF THE CLASS D. AS I DSNDED THROUGH 2900 FT, CTLR REQUESTED THAT I MAINTAIN 2900 FT TO REMAIN CLR OF THE CLASS D. I CLBED BACK UP TO 2900 FT AND STAYED THERE UNTIL CLR. UNFORTUNATELY BOTH THE CTLR AND I WERE BUSY ENOUGH THAT THERE WAS NO TIME TO MAKE INQUIRIES. I BELIEVE THE CTLR WAS CONFUSED AS TO THE ACTUAL CEILING OF THE POU CLASS D AIRSPACE.
