Narrative:
On descent to hilton head sc airport (49J), I attempted to contact unicom on their published frequency of 123.0 when 10 mi out. Continued calls brought no response. I entered the airport traffic pattern on left downwind to runway 21, announcing my position on downwind, base and final (a total of 3 times) no response was received to any of my calls. When approximately 2 mi on final, I received an announcement on unicom that a temporary tower had been set up to handle traffic for the family cup tennis tournament, and was in use. I immediately announced that I would terminate the approach and began to go around. The voice on the unicom said to continue to land and contact the tower on their frequency. I switched to the temporary tower frequency upon touching down, and was cleared to the ramp. No further communications with the temporary tower was requested or was made. I did not inquire as to whom I spoke on unicom, or why my half dozen or so calls to them went unanswered.
