Narrative:
During an ILS approach to runway 10R at pdx at approximately XA30 local time on the morning of apr/xx/94, I was cleared to land on runway 10R by pdx tower. This was the first time I had made an approach to the pdx airport in over 20 yrs and I was a little apprehensive after being told to keep my speed up because of following traffic. The approach was through a higher overcast and some lower scattered clouds which interfered with getting a clear view of the airport. At approximately 500 ft the tower requested I use runway 10L. I looked immediately to the left of runway 10R and acknowledged what I thought was runway 10L in sight. I continued the approach and landed only then to realize that I had landed on a 4000 ft parallel taxiway. Pdx tower did not say anything about this incident, but I thought it best to report it.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PVT PLT OF SMA LANDS ON TXWY.
Narrative: DURING AN ILS APCH TO RWY 10R AT PDX AT APPROX XA30 LCL TIME ON THE MORNING OF APR/XX/94, I WAS CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 10R BY PDX TWR. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAD MADE AN APCH TO THE PDX ARPT IN OVER 20 YRS AND I WAS A LITTLE APPREHENSIVE AFTER BEING TOLD TO KEEP MY SPD UP BECAUSE OF FOLLOWING TFC. THE APCH WAS THROUGH A HIGHER OVCST AND SOME LOWER SCATTERED CLOUDS WHICH INTERFERED WITH GETTING A CLR VIEW OF THE ARPT. AT APPROX 500 FT THE TWR REQUESTED I USE RWY 10L. I LOOKED IMMEDIATELY TO THE L OF RWY 10R AND ACKNOWLEDGED WHAT I THOUGHT WAS RWY 10L IN SIGHT. I CONTINUED THE APCH AND LANDED ONLY THEN TO REALIZE THAT I HAD LANDED ON A 4000 FT PARALLEL TXWY. PDX TWR DID NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THIS INCIDENT, BUT I THOUGHT IT BEST TO RPT IT.
