Narrative:
After takeoff, pressure flow light on cabin pressure controller illuminated, aircraft was not pressurizing normally. Returned to clt and found aft galley door not shut properly annunciator panel aft galley door light tested normally both in-flight and on the ground indicating aft galley door was shut. Upon inspection in clt, door was not flush with fuselage but made contact with micro switch for door warning light. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states that he has flown the md 80 for 8 yrs and never had this happen before. Mechanic, however, told him it had happened once before to his knowledge. Another mechanic showed reporter how the door can be closed, locked, and still not be properly seated. When he tried it, the door was 2 inches inside the fuselage. Discussion determined it may well be the caterers closing the door from the outside. Reporter believes this is a potential disaster and should be corrected. At analyst urging he is going to follow through with his company and possibly alpa.
