Narrative:
Flying RNAV direct from U41 in idaho to wenatchee (pangborn memorial) and after a briefing in dubois where I was informed that some rising cumulus could be expected. I flew VFR towards my destination. Over salmon, identification, VFR while on top of 12500 ft, I began to notice the rising clouds. Climbing to 17000 ft to maintain VFR. Within mins the clouds to the front and rear and north rose above my intended flight path. Swinging to the south, I called ZSE and explained my problem. I informed center that, although I was IFR qualified, I was not current. They gave me a transponder code and vectors to lewiston which was reporting VFR. After a flight of some 10 mins IFR, we broke into the clear and so notified center who gave us flight following to pangborn. Future actions to prevent recurrence: 1) stay current on IFR requirements. 2) file and fly IFR where IMC conditions will likely occur. 3) believe the WX forecasts.
