Narrative:

While climbing out about 30 mins into the flight, we noticed a status message 'ovbd ex vol open.' several mins later we got the red 'cabin altitude' warning (meaning the cabin altitude was 10000 ft). We did the QRH procedures, declared an emergency and descended to 15000 ft where we were able to control the cabin. We returned to dfw and got a new aircraft. I feel I did the right thing in those circumstances, but in case the FAA decides to disagree, I'm filing this NASA.
