Narrative:
On may/sun/94 I was PIC of bonanza in contact with approach and then handed off to the tower at quad city airport, moline, il. I was cleared to land and on final about 1 mi out, when my LORAN stopped working and then all of the rest of my avionics went out, I had lost all my electric power. Since the airplane had no electric power, the landing gear lights were also inoperative and the mechanical landing gear indicator appeared to me that the gear was not down and locked. There was not enough time to crank the gear down manually so I did not land, I could not talk to the tower to let them know about my electric problem so I rocked my wings and squawked 7600 and hoped the tower could understand I had problems. I returned to my home base safely and cranked my gear down to a safe landing. When I landed, ZAU had already called the FBO to have me call them, so I called them and explained what happened.

I WAS CLRED TO LAND AND ON FINAL ABOUT 1 MI OUT, WHEN MY LORAN STOPPED WORKING AND THEN ALL OF THE REST OF MY AVIONICS WENT OUT, I HAD LOST ALL MY ELECTRIC PWR. THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH TIME TO CRANK THE GEAR DOWN MANUALLY SO I DID NOT LAND, I COULD NOT TALK TO THE TWR TO LET THEM KNOW ABOUT MY ELECTRIC PROB SO I ROCKED MY WINGS AND SQUAWKED 7600 AND HOPED THE TWR COULD UNDERSTAND I HAD PROBS. I RETURNED TO MY HOME BASE SAFELY AND CRANKED MY GEAR DOWN TO A SAFE LNDG. WHEN I LANDED, ZAU HAD ALREADY CALLED THE FBO TO HAVE ME CALL THEM, SO I CALLED THEM AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED.
