Narrative:
During takeoff roll, I noticed small flock of birds rise from the runway. One almost hit my windscreen and was then ingested into the left engine, causing a loud bang from the engine with aircraft yawing to the left. This happened near V1 and I aborted the takeoff successfully. Upon clearing the runway, first officer requested emergency vehicles to respond. They checked our left engine and brakes for fire or damage. They observed no damage, but we were unable to taxi further as brakes had locked up. Passenger were deplaned through aft airstair as ground transportation became available. Flight attendants remained calm, and we made numerous PA's from the cockpit to keep the passenger informed of our status. Slight consideration was given to doing an emergency evacuate/evacuation once clear of the runway, but there was no fire or visible damage so we elected to use the aft airstair. Mobile emergency personnel, airport police, ATC, and our contract maintenance personnel, and our station personnel all worked well together to assist us.

Title: ACR ABORTS TKOF DUE BIRD STRIKE AND INGESTION.
Narrative: DURING TKOF ROLL, I NOTICED SMALL FLOCK OF BIRDS RISE FROM THE RWY. ONE ALMOST HIT MY WINDSCREEN AND WAS THEN INGESTED INTO THE L ENG, CAUSING A LOUD BANG FROM THE ENG WITH ACFT YAWING TO THE L. THIS HAPPENED NEAR V1 AND I ABORTED THE TKOF SUCCESSFULLY. UPON CLRING THE RWY, FO REQUESTED EMER VEHICLES TO RESPOND. THEY CHKED OUR L ENG AND BRAKES FOR FIRE OR DAMAGE. THEY OBSERVED NO DAMAGE, BUT WE WERE UNABLE TO TAXI FURTHER AS BRAKES HAD LOCKED UP. PAX WERE DEPLANED THROUGH AFT AIRSTAIR AS GND TRANSPORTATION BECAME AVAILABLE. FLT ATTENDANTS REMAINED CALM, AND WE MADE NUMEROUS PA'S FROM THE COCKPIT TO KEEP THE PAX INFORMED OF OUR STATUS. SLIGHT CONSIDERATION WAS GIVEN TO DOING AN EMER EVAC ONCE CLR OF THE RWY, BUT THERE WAS NO FIRE OR VISIBLE DAMAGE SO WE ELECTED TO USE THE AFT AIRSTAIR. MOBILE EMER PERSONNEL, ARPT POLICE, ATC, AND OUR CONTRACT MAINT PERSONNEL, AND OUR STATION PERSONNEL ALL WORKED WELL TOGETHER TO ASSIST US.
