Narrative:
While flying to teterboro we were asked to hold at nottingham VOR for a period of time far exceeding our fuel time on board. We were given a holding on the ott VOR 225 degree radial hold west right turns. When we reached the VOR, I was busy in the cockpit and flew right by the VOR and did not enter the holding pattern. After 25 mi I was told by ZDC to return to the VOR and enter holding. Then we informed ATC that we need to deviate to trenton, nj, with no delay due to our fuel situation. That was agreed by ATC and we were given a descent and at reaching ott VOR we were told to make a left turn to a 085 degree heading to proceed with the arrival into trenton. I made a right turn due to a thunderstorm I was almost entering, I could not relay my intentions due to a busy ATC, so I did what I felt I had to do for WX. Retrospect: I should have paid more attention to detail and to what I was doing in the cockpit. Also I did poor flight planning. I should have had an alternate planned out. I will pay much more attention to what I'm doing and pay heed to holding instructions.

Narrative: WHILE FLYING TO TETERBORO WE WERE ASKED TO HOLD AT NOTTINGHAM VOR FOR A PERIOD OF TIME FAR EXCEEDING OUR FUEL TIME ON BOARD. WE WERE GIVEN A HOLDING ON THE OTT VOR 225 DEG RADIAL HOLD W R TURNS. WHEN WE REACHED THE VOR, I WAS BUSY IN THE COCKPIT AND FLEW RIGHT BY THE VOR AND DID NOT ENTER THE HOLDING PATTERN. AFTER 25 MI I WAS TOLD BY ZDC TO RETURN TO THE VOR AND ENTER HOLDING. THEN WE INFORMED ATC THAT WE NEED TO DEVIATE TO TRENTON, NJ, WITH NO DELAY DUE TO OUR FUEL SIT. THAT WAS AGREED BY ATC AND WE WERE GIVEN A DSCNT AND AT REACHING OTT VOR WE WERE TOLD TO MAKE A L TURN TO A 085 DEG HDG TO PROCEED WITH THE ARR INTO TRENTON. I MADE A R TURN DUE TO A TSTM I WAS ALMOST ENTERING, I COULD NOT RELAY MY INTENTIONS DUE TO A BUSY ATC, SO I DID WHAT I FELT I HAD TO DO FOR WX. RETROSPECT: I SHOULD HAVE PAID MORE ATTN TO DETAIL AND TO WHAT I WAS DOING IN THE COCKPIT. ALSO I DID POOR FLT PLANNING. I SHOULD HAVE HAD AN ALTERNATE PLANNED OUT. I WILL PAY MUCH MORE ATTN TO WHAT I'M DOING AND PAY HEED TO HOLDING INSTRUCTIONS.
