Narrative:

I was on a non-stop direct VFR flight. I departed (fpr) fort pierce st lucie county international florida at xxam EST time on jun/xx/94. The control tower was closed. I departed VFR in clear conditions. I was navigating direct by use of LORAN to (oxc) oxford, connecticut. This route would bring me about 100 mi out to sea. I had used this route before but had always used flight following. When I approached the north carolina coast I was intercepted by F-16-jets to identify me. I had neglected to notify center upon crossing ADIZ. Some contributing factors were not normally using flight following. Having lost about 5 hours because of mechanical problems with the aircraft. Not thinking of ADIZ notification as needed since I hadn't landed outside of country. I contacted ZDC as I entered land area of north carolina to get flight following for the remainder of trip. Shortly after contacting ZDC I was made aware of my violation of ADIZ. This was the first time I realized what the problem was. I can guarantee you that due to this experience it will never happen again.

Title: PVT PLT ON NO FLT PLAN PENETRATED AN ADIZ AIRSPACE AND IS INTERCEPTED BY US MIL FREIGHT ACFT.

Narrative: I WAS ON A NON-STOP DIRECT VFR FLT. I DEPARTED (FPR) FORT PIERCE ST LUCIE COUNTY INTL FLORIDA AT XXAM EST TIME ON JUN/XX/94. THE CTL TWR WAS CLOSED. I DEPARTED VFR IN CLR CONDITIONS. I WAS NAVING DIRECT BY USE OF LORAN TO (OXC) OXFORD, CONNECTICUT. THIS RTE WOULD BRING ME ABOUT 100 MI OUT TO SEA. I HAD USED THIS RTE BEFORE BUT HAD ALWAYS USED FLT FOLLOWING. WHEN I APCHED THE N CAROLINA COAST I WAS INTERCEPTED BY F-16-JETS TO IDENT ME. I HAD NEGLECTED TO NOTIFY CTR UPON XING ADIZ. SOME CONTRIBUTING FACTORS WERE NOT NORMALLY USING FLT FOLLOWING. HAVING LOST ABOUT 5 HRS BECAUSE OF MECHANICAL PROBS WITH THE ACFT. NOT THINKING OF ADIZ NOTIFICATION AS NEEDED SINCE I HADN'T LANDED OUTSIDE OF COUNTRY. I CONTACTED ZDC AS I ENTERED LAND AREA OF NORTH CAROLINA TO GET FLT FOLLOWING FOR THE REMAINDER OF TRIP. SHORTLY AFTER CONTACTING ZDC I WAS MADE AWARE OF MY VIOLATION OF ADIZ. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I REALIZED WHAT THE PROB WAS. I CAN GUARANTEE YOU THAT DUE TO THIS EXPERIENCE IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.
