Air Traffic Incident | Pilot Deviation |
Narrative:
Level 11000 ft on trake arrival to stl. Cleared to 7000 ft. Slowed 250 KTS and extended speed brakes. Passing 7300 ft TCASII RA sounded with climb command. Approach had not previously issued traffic. Climb commenced, traffic acquired visually and conflict resolved by 7700 ft. Aircraft was cleared to 6000 ft (other aircraft Y) on the departure. ATC was notified of the deviation and we were cleared back to 7000 ft. Aircraft did not level at 7000 ft and descended below 7000 ft before recovery was initiated. Aircraft X descended to about 6700 ft before reversal was accomplished. Aircraft flown to 7000 ft promptly. ATC asked for altitude confirmation. We confirmed 7000 ft and were cleared to 4000 ft and the rest of the arrival was uneventful.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: 2 ALTDEVS ALT EXCURSION ALT OVERSHOT IN DSCNT AFTER TCASII RA.
Narrative: LEVEL 11000 FT ON TRAKE ARR TO STL. CLRED TO 7000 FT. SLOWED 250 KTS AND EXTENDED SPD BRAKES. PASSING 7300 FT TCASII RA SOUNDED WITH CLB COMMAND. APCH HAD NOT PREVIOUSLY ISSUED TFC. CLB COMMENCED, TFC ACQUIRED VISUALLY AND CONFLICT RESOLVED BY 7700 FT. ACFT WAS CLRED TO 6000 FT (OTHER ACFT Y) ON THE DEP. ATC WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEV AND WE WERE CLRED BACK TO 7000 FT. ACFT DID NOT LEVEL AT 7000 FT AND DSNDED BELOW 7000 FT BEFORE RECOVERY WAS INITIATED. ACFT X DSNDED TO ABOUT 6700 FT BEFORE REVERSAL WAS ACCOMPLISHED. ACFT FLOWN TO 7000 FT PROMPTLY. ATC ASKED FOR ALT CONFIRMATION. WE CONFIRMED 7000 FT AND WERE CLRED TO 4000 FT AND THE REST OF THE ARR WAS UNEVENTFUL.
