Narrative:

I landed at boise late evening, secured the airplane, checked the fuel gauges. I asked the fuel attendant for 10 gallons a side and left for the motel. Next morning I had an early departure with passenger to a back-country airstrip, then deadhead to stanley for planned fuel stop and next flight. The morning fuel attendant didn't know if the aircraft had been fueled. I checked gauges then dipped the tanks and decided that the fuel was ok for the flight with min fuel and reserve. On the deadhead leg to stanley, about 5 mi from airport. The left engine quit. I performed single engine procedures, let down and landed with no problem. I checked the tanks, and found the left tank was empty. I fueled the airplane and made an engine run. Determined there was no mechanical problem. I loaded and made 1 more trip to the back country strip and returned. The lesson learned was always stay with the airplane when having it fueled and make sure fuel is put in. And, when flying with minimum fuel, put in some extra.
