Narrative:

On departure, approaching 221 degrees, 12 DME, departure controller pointed out pop-up traffic at our 10-11 O'clock position. TCASII plotted position and showed aircraft 500 ft above our altitude. Traffic was sighted, appeared to be a mooney, we shallowed our climb. Traffic appeared to be 20-30 degrees away from our heading. As we initiated a right turn to btx VOR, the controller called our position to this aircraft, the pilot turned right and descended approximately 300 ft. We continued our turn and momentarily leveled. Total separation approximately 200 ft vertical and less than 1/4 mi horizontal.
