Narrative:

First officer as PF suspected possible tailskid strike on liftoff. Captain ADI pitch valve about 10 degrees anu at occurrence. Rotation rate was normal. Contacted dispatch to report, and for maintenance guidance for flight continuance. Destination maintenance personnel. Inspected tailskid upon arrival, found no damage, painted tailskid, signed off logbook write-up. I had flown with this first officer once before, and found him quite competent. His rotation rate was quite smooth and timely, and I was looking right at ADI at rotation. I noticed the deviation above the normal 8 degrees immediately, but was not quick enough to do a yoke pushover before the tail strike. I believe the first officer will be more respectful of flight maneuver specifications in the future, seeing the penalty for deviations so graphically. And I will be even more on guard in the future, even with those whose professional competence I am familiar with.

Title: WDB HAS TAIL STRIKE ON TKOF.

Narrative: FO AS PF SUSPECTED POSSIBLE TAILSKID STRIKE ON LIFTOFF. CAPT ADI PITCH VALVE ABOUT 10 DEGS ANU AT OCCURRENCE. ROTATION RATE WAS NORMAL. CONTACTED DISPATCH TO RPT, AND FOR MAINT GUIDANCE FOR FLT CONTINUANCE. DEST MAINT PERSONNEL. INSPECTED TAILSKID UPON ARR, FOUND NO DAMAGE, PAINTED TAILSKID, SIGNED OFF LOGBOOK WRITE-UP. I HAD FLOWN WITH THIS FO ONCE BEFORE, AND FOUND HIM QUITE COMPETENT. HIS ROTATION RATE WAS QUITE SMOOTH AND TIMELY, AND I WAS LOOKING RIGHT AT ADI AT ROTATION. I NOTICED THE DEV ABOVE THE NORMAL 8 DEGS IMMEDIATELY, BUT WAS NOT QUICK ENOUGH TO DO A YOKE PUSHOVER BEFORE THE TAIL STRIKE. I BELIEVE THE FO WILL BE MORE RESPECTFUL OF FLT MANEUVER SPECS IN THE FUTURE, SEEING THE PENALTY FOR DEVS SO GRAPHICALLY. AND I WILL BE EVEN MORE ON GUARD IN THE FUTURE, EVEN WITH THOSE WHOSE PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE I AM FAMILIAR WITH.
