Narrative:

After a normal approach on runway 3 and a slightly hard landing, the airplane veered to the left. I could not immediately get it corrected and centered so I attempted to go around. I was unable to gain sufficient airspeed before contacting a runway identifier light, damaging the right main gear leg, propeller and front of the right wing. I initially assumed that the left wheel pant, which had been installed 3 weeks earlier, had caught up the wheel, causing it to pull to the left. In retrospect, I do not believe this was the cause as there was no wear evident on the tire or wheel pant and I had made 22 successful lndgs since the installation. In the absence of any other evidence of mechanical failure I can only attribute this incident to my inability to maintain directional control. I now need to rebuild my airplane and work even harder on my lndgs.

Title: PVT PLT OF SMA SEL LOST CTL OF ACFT DURING LNDG AND STRUCK RWY IDENTIFIER LIGHT RESULTING IN DAMAGE TO THE R MAIN GEAR, PROP AND THE WING LEADING EDGE.

Narrative: AFTER A NORMAL APCH ON RWY 3 AND A SLIGHTLY HARD LNDG, THE AIRPLANE VEERED TO THE LEFT. I COULD NOT IMMEDIATELY GET IT CORRECTED AND CTRED SO I ATTEMPTED TO GAR. I WAS UNABLE TO GAIN SUFFICIENT AIRSPD BEFORE CONTACTING A RWY IDENTIFIER LIGHT, DAMAGING THE R MAIN GEAR LEG, PROP AND FRONT OF THE R WING. I INITIALLY ASSUMED THAT THE L WHEEL PANT, WHICH HAD BEEN INSTALLED 3 WKS EARLIER, HAD CAUGHT UP THE WHEEL, CAUSING IT TO PULL TO THE L. IN RETROSPECT, I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS WAS THE CAUSE AS THERE WAS NO WEAR EVIDENT ON THE TIRE OR WHEEL PANT AND I HAD MADE 22 SUCCESSFUL LNDGS SINCE THE INSTALLATION. IN THE ABSENCE OF ANY OTHER EVIDENCE OF MECHANICAL FAILURE I CAN ONLY ATTRIBUTE THIS INCIDENT TO MY INABILITY TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CTL. I NOW NEED TO REBUILD MY AIRPLANE AND WORK EVEN HARDER ON MY LNDGS.
