Narrative:
Flying the rome 8 arrival into atlanta, I intercepted the bowling green 148 degrees radial (instead of the bwg 175 degrees radial). I noticed my mistake several mins later about the same time center questioned us about our heading. Cause: lack of crew position awareness. Also, on a lot of STAR's and on the rome 8 there is a lot of data which is not important to the arrs, it simply fills empty space. On the rome 8 arrival, the bwg arrival is halfway off the page like VOR's which are not important to the arrival. I flew over the bwg VOR but intercepted the 148 degree radial (which was nashville's arrival). Suggestion: get rid of data on arrs which is not important to arrs. VOR's which are important should be totally on the page not halfway off.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF MLG INTERCEPTED THE WRONG RADIAL ON A STAR ARR CAUSING ATC CTLR TO INTERVENE.
Narrative: FLYING THE ROME 8 ARR INTO ATLANTA, I INTERCEPTED THE BOWLING GREEN 148 DEGS RADIAL (INSTEAD OF THE BWG 175 DEGS RADIAL). I NOTICED MY MISTAKE SEVERAL MINS LATER ABOUT THE SAME TIME CTR QUESTIONED US ABOUT OUR HDG. CAUSE: LACK OF CREW POS AWARENESS. ALSO, ON A LOT OF STAR'S AND ON THE ROME 8 THERE IS A LOT OF DATA WHICH IS NOT IMPORTANT TO THE ARRS, IT SIMPLY FILLS EMPTY SPACE. ON THE ROME 8 ARR, THE BWG ARR IS HALFWAY OFF THE PAGE LIKE VOR'S WHICH ARE NOT IMPORTANT TO THE ARR. I FLEW OVER THE BWG VOR BUT INTERCEPTED THE 148 DEG RADIAL (WHICH WAS NASHVILLE'S ARR). SUGGESTION: GET RID OF DATA ON ARRS WHICH IS NOT IMPORTANT TO ARRS. VOR'S WHICH ARE IMPORTANT SHOULD BE TOTALLY ON THE PAGE NOT HALFWAY OFF.
