Narrative:

Flying with student on final stage check for 141 course. Simulated engine failure over woodland airport at about 2000 ft student drifted away from airport while simulating engine restart, 7700, 121.5, etc. Turned back to field and started downwind abeam numbers about 700 ft. Turned steeply to acquire runway and we were very close to poles as we maneuvered to line up with runway. Went around. I had been tired all day and my reaction to the low situation was slower than it should have been. I should know better!
