Narrative:

WX at kmco was scattered with good visibility but I could see rain showers in the area -- scattered. On final to runway 17 I could see a rain shower between us and the runway moving west to east. Switched to tower to check on winds and they were 270/16. About 3 mi out went into rain, which was heavy, but not much turbulence and airspeed held steady at 160 KTS. (Reference plus 20) and first officer was having no problems staying on ILS. At about 400 ft AGL airspeed jumped to 180. I called for go around and we executed it maximum performance style. Broke out of shower at south end of runway. Flew another pattern and landed VFR no trouble as rain had moved east, but wind stayed from west at 30 KTS. Previous wind shear training enabled me to notice an increasing performance wind shear (or what may have been one) and execute a safe evasive maneuver.

FLEW ANOTHER PATTERN AND LANDED VFR NO TROUBLE AS RAIN HAD MOVED E, BUT WIND STAYED FROM W AT 30 KTS.
