Narrative:

Laser light of high intensity, green in color noted at 2500 ft MSL on approach to hnl while on modified right base leg to runway 8L. Approximately 2000 ft hst. Light appeared to be coming from restaurant row area of honolulu. Called and notified honolulu tower and honolulu airport police. Police stated they would advise police in town to see if they could locate and get it turned off, police subsequently found light at the X hotel. Hotel assistant general manager notified of potential danger to aircraft during critical phase of flight. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: I contacted the reporter who was the aci and he asked that I contact the facility manager who had processed the problem laser. The facility manager stated that he knew of no current problem with lasers in the area. He mentioned in passing that the fbi was involved in the reported incident and the hotel involved was not currently creating any problem. He went on to say he had looked into the regulations and could not find one to address that problem.

Title: FAA ACI ON LINE CHK OBSERVED HIGH INTENSITY LASER INTERFERING WITH ARPT TFC.

Narrative: LASER LIGHT OF HIGH INTENSITY, GREEN IN COLOR NOTED AT 2500 FT MSL ON APCH TO HNL WHILE ON MODIFIED R BASE LEG TO RWY 8L. APPROX 2000 FT HST. LIGHT APPEARED TO BE COMING FROM RESTAURANT ROW AREA OF HONOLULU. CALLED AND NOTIFIED HONOLULU TWR AND HONOLULU ARPT POLICE. POLICE STATED THEY WOULD ADVISE POLICE IN TOWN TO SEE IF THEY COULD LOCATE AND GET IT TURNED OFF, POLICE SUBSEQUENTLY FOUND LIGHT AT THE X HOTEL. HOTEL ASSISTANT GENERAL MGR NOTIFIED OF POTENTIAL DANGER TO ACFT DURING CRITICAL PHASE OF FLT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: I CONTACTED THE RPTR WHO WAS THE ACI AND HE ASKED THAT I CONTACT THE FACILITY MGR WHO HAD PROCESSED THE PROB LASER. THE FACILITY MGR STATED THAT HE KNEW OF NO CURRENT PROB WITH LASERS IN THE AREA. HE MENTIONED IN PASSING THAT THE FBI WAS INVOLVED IN THE RPTED INCIDENT AND THE HOTEL INVOLVED WAS NOT CURRENTLY CREATING ANY PROB. HE WENT ON TO SAY HE HAD LOOKED INTO THE REGS AND COULD NOT FIND ONE TO ADDRESS THAT PROB.
