Narrative:
On oct/xx/94 at XX20 pm. I called redlands unicom on 122.7 to advise them I was taxiing. After my preflight I notified them I would be taking off on runway 26 straight out departure there was no response either time. I took action to taxi on the runway 26 and again advised them I would be taking a straight out departure again no response. As I took off to the left of me was a helicopter apparently an instructor and a student pilot. Either they had their radio off or were not paying attention to safety. They were approximately 150-200 ft to my left and hovering off the ground. I feel that the instructor should have emphasized to the students safety first especially in the los angeles basin.
