Narrative:
On oct/xx/94 at approximately XA15 pm, I was flying cessna in the vicinity of salinas, ca, airport. I was in contact with salinas tower and was over the northridge shopping center and was cleared to land on runway 13. When I took off from rhv on runway 31, I flew south over south county airport and noticed traffic landing on runway 32 and somehow developed a mind set that the wind at salinas would also favor runway 31. Somehow I became convinced that I should land on runway 31 rather than the assigned runway 13. After landing on runway 31, I taxied back to runway 13 and took off with tower clearance without further problems. Next time when I fly to an airport that I have not flown to for some time, especially one with crossed runways, I will be more attentive to the tower instructions as well as to my downwind compass heading and be sure that it is the reciprocal of the runway heading I am cleared to land on.

Title: PLT OF SMA SEL LANDED ON THE WRONG RWY.
Narrative: ON OCT/XX/94 AT APPROX XA15 PM, I WAS FLYING CESSNA IN THE VICINITY OF SALINAS, CA, ARPT. I WAS IN CONTACT WITH SALINAS TWR AND WAS OVER THE NORTHRIDGE SHOPPING CTR AND WAS CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 13. WHEN I TOOK OFF FROM RHV ON RWY 31, I FLEW S OVER S COUNTY ARPT AND NOTICED TFC LNDG ON RWY 32 AND SOMEHOW DEVELOPED A MIND SET THAT THE WIND AT SALINAS WOULD ALSO FAVOR RWY 31. SOMEHOW I BECAME CONVINCED THAT I SHOULD LAND ON RWY 31 RATHER THAN THE ASSIGNED RWY 13. AFTER LNDG ON RWY 31, I TAXIED BACK TO RWY 13 AND TOOK OFF WITH TWR CLRNC WITHOUT FURTHER PROBS. NEXT TIME WHEN I FLY TO AN ARPT THAT I HAVE NOT FLOWN TO FOR SOME TIME, ESPECIALLY ONE WITH CROSSED RWYS, I WILL BE MORE ATTENTIVE TO THE TWR INSTRUCTIONS AS WELL AS TO MY DOWNWIND COMPASS HDG AND BE SURE THAT IT IS THE RECIPROCAL OF THE RWY HDG I AM CLRED TO LAND ON.
