Narrative:
Arrived at aircraft at AM30. Noticed an open write-up in maintenance log from late pm previous night and brought it to captain's attention. The write-up stated that the oil bypass light came on several times during flight with oil pressure within normal limits. The captain took the books inside and phoned air carrier maintenance control (moc). When he returned, about 10 mins alter, he stated that moc said we could go with an addendum to the write-up (ie, an information to maintenance note). On ramp in nashville, mechanics said that the write-up was illegal and should not have been authority/authorized without corrective action. Supplemental information from acn 287291: moc instructed me to write an addendum to the existing write-up stating 'information to maintenance' with my initials and 'per moc' with the moc controller's name. Destination maintenance was advised line mechanics and supervisor told the first officer the course of action that moc advised was illegal and should not have been authority/authorized. I realize that my 'gut feelings' usually do not let me down and I should have insisted that a qualified mechanic come out and properly close the open write-up.

Title: IMPROPER LOGBOOK WRITE-OFF.
Narrative: ARRIVED AT ACFT AT AM30. NOTICED AN OPEN WRITE-UP IN MAINT LOG FROM LATE PM PREVIOUS NIGHT AND BROUGHT IT TO CAPT'S ATTN. THE WRITE-UP STATED THAT THE OIL BYPASS LIGHT CAME ON SEVERAL TIMES DURING FLT WITH OIL PRESSURE WITHIN NORMAL LIMITS. THE CAPT TOOK THE BOOKS INSIDE AND PHONED ACR MAINT CTL (MOC). WHEN HE RETURNED, ABOUT 10 MINS ALTER, HE STATED THAT MOC SAID WE COULD GO WITH AN ADDENDUM TO THE WRITE-UP (IE, AN INFO TO MAINT NOTE). ON RAMP IN NASHVILLE, MECHS SAID THAT THE WRITE-UP WAS ILLEGAL AND SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AUTH WITHOUT CORRECTIVE ACTION. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 287291: MOC INSTRUCTED ME TO WRITE AN ADDENDUM TO THE EXISTING WRITE-UP STATING 'INFO TO MAINT' WITH MY INITIALS AND 'PER MOC' WITH THE MOC CTLR'S NAME. DEST MAINT WAS ADVISED LINE MECHS AND SUPVR TOLD THE FO THE COURSE OF ACTION THAT MOC ADVISED WAS ILLEGAL AND SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AUTH. I REALIZE THAT MY 'GUT FEELINGS' USUALLY DO NOT LET ME DOWN AND I SHOULD HAVE INSISTED THAT A QUALIFIED MECH COME OUT AND PROPERLY CLOSE THE OPEN WRITE-UP.
