Narrative:

I was notified that a diffuser case tube that I allegedly machined was installed on an engine. This tube was allegedly machined too short and allowed engine oil to be consumed, causing a diversion into tul on a scheduled company flight. The tube is not serialized. The documentation tag was supplied to me by company. The engine had passed test and had 17 cycles prior to alleged failure. Maintenance procedure should be changed to include a jig to braze each ferrule to tube so that all tubes will be assured of being the same length. This tube should also be designated an inspection item. A work card could also be made up for the proper sequence of repair and inspection.

Title: MAINT PROB FORCES ACFT TO DIVERT LAND. DIFFUSER CASE TUBE TOO SHORT CAUSING OIL CONSUMPTION.

Narrative: I WAS NOTIFIED THAT A DIFFUSER CASE TUBE THAT I ALLEGEDLY MACHINED WAS INSTALLED ON AN ENG. THIS TUBE WAS ALLEGEDLY MACHINED TOO SHORT AND ALLOWED ENG OIL TO BE CONSUMED, CAUSING A DIVERSION INTO TUL ON A SCHEDULED COMPANY FLT. THE TUBE IS NOT SERIALIZED. THE DOCUMENTATION TAG WAS SUPPLIED TO ME BY COMPANY. THE ENG HAD PASSED TEST AND HAD 17 CYCLES PRIOR TO ALLEGED FAILURE. MAINT PROC SHOULD BE CHANGED TO INCLUDE A JIG TO BRAZE EACH FERRULE TO TUBE SO THAT ALL TUBES WILL BE ASSURED OF BEING THE SAME LENGTH. THIS TUBE SHOULD ALSO BE DESIGNATED AN INSPECTION ITEM. A WORK CARD COULD ALSO BE MADE UP FOR THE PROPER SEQUENCE OF REPAIR AND INSPECTION.
