Narrative:

En route iah to phl, first officer's R-1 window began arcing and cracked. I declared an emergency and began descent. I notified center, flight attendants and passenger we were diverting to dca. I instructed the first officer to accomplish the abnormal checklist and we landed in dca without incident. By declaring an emergency and squawking 7700, our situation was handled in a very timely and efficient manner. It is great to have a group of professionals working with you in an emergency. Also it is imperative that 1 pilot is always flying the aircraft, while the other accomplishes the checklists.
