Narrative:
At orlando int (mco) runway 36L intersection A3 with good VFR WX (information oscar) we were cleared for takeoff. We taxied into position on the runway centerline. We applied full power and accelerated. We did not deviate from the centerline of the runway. At 40 KTS maintaining good directional control we heard a bang, which we also felt. I aborted takeoff and contacted the tower to advise them of the incident. The tower asked me to contact ground. I contacted ground and requested taxi to the ramp and reported debris on the runway 500 ft approximately from intersection A3. At the ramp I inspected the aircraft and found damage to the propeller, 1 tip only, approximately 1 1/2 inches missing and 1 small scrape, approximately 1 foot to the rear of the nosewheel about 3 inches long on the underside of the aircraft. I am sending this report as a matter of course, with a suggestion that after sunset, there are inspections made by ground crew, of the runways and txwys at regular intervals.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: NIGHT TKOF PLT STRIKES FOREIGN OBJECT DAMAGED ON THE RWY WITH PROP AND ABORTS TKOF.
Narrative: AT ORLANDO INT (MCO) RWY 36L INTXN A3 WITH GOOD VFR WX (INFO OSCAR) WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. WE TAXIED INTO POS ON THE RWY CTRLINE. WE APPLIED FULL PWR AND ACCELERATED. WE DID NOT DEVIATE FROM THE CTRLINE OF THE RWY. AT 40 KTS MAINTAINING GOOD DIRECTIONAL CTL WE HEARD A BANG, WHICH WE ALSO FELT. I ABORTED TKOF AND CONTACTED THE TWR TO ADVISE THEM OF THE INCIDENT. THE TWR ASKED ME TO CONTACT GND. I CONTACTED GND AND REQUESTED TAXI TO THE RAMP AND RPTED DEBRIS ON THE RWY 500 FT APPROX FROM INTXN A3. AT THE RAMP I INSPECTED THE ACFT AND FOUND DAMAGE TO THE PROP, 1 TIP ONLY, APPROX 1 1/2 INCHES MISSING AND 1 SMALL SCRAPE, APPROX 1 FOOT TO THE REAR OF THE NOSEWHEEL ABOUT 3 INCHES LONG ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE ACFT. I AM SENDING THIS RPT AS A MATTER OF COURSE, WITH A SUGGESTION THAT AFTER SUNSET, THERE ARE INSPECTIONS MADE BY GND CREW, OF THE RWYS AND TXWYS AT REGULAR INTERVALS.
