Narrative:
Conditions on the ground were overcast with tops at 5500 ft. The temperature did not require anti-ice for climb out to 33000 ft MSL. The continuation of the flight above 5500 ft was conducted in clear skies with unlimited visibility. While climbing at 500 FPM at 32400 ft. We experienced an abrupt drop in fan speed accompanied by a noticeable vibration. The engine was shut down as indicated fan speed decreased. Engine shutdown checklist procedure was then completed. We had indicated oil pressure on that engine for the entire flight. After engine shutdown, we so informed ATC and requested a descent to FL240 with a change in destination to knoxville (where IFR conditions prevailed). After considering all circumstances, greensboro was selected as our destination due to the existence of VFR conditions. Engine restart was not attempted.

Title: INFLT ENG SHUTDOWN ON CPR JET.
Narrative: CONDITIONS ON THE GND WERE OVCST WITH TOPS AT 5500 FT. THE TEMP DID NOT REQUIRE ANTI-ICE FOR CLBOUT TO 33000 FT MSL. THE CONTINUATION OF THE FLT ABOVE 5500 FT WAS CONDUCTED IN CLR SKIES WITH UNLIMITED VISIBILITY. WHILE CLBING AT 500 FPM AT 32400 FT. WE EXPERIENCED AN ABRUPT DROP IN FAN SPD ACCOMPANIED BY A NOTICEABLE VIBRATION. THE ENG WAS SHUT DOWN AS INDICATED FAN SPD DECREASED. ENG SHUTDOWN CHKLIST PROC WAS THEN COMPLETED. WE HAD INDICATED OIL PRESSURE ON THAT ENG FOR THE ENTIRE FLT. AFTER ENG SHUTDOWN, WE SO INFORMED ATC AND REQUESTED A DSCNT TO FL240 WITH A CHANGE IN DEST TO KNOXVILLE (WHERE IFR CONDITIONS PREVAILED). AFTER CONSIDERING ALL CIRCUMSTANCES, GREENSBORO WAS SELECTED AS OUR DEST DUE TO THE EXISTENCE OF VFR CONDITIONS. ENG RESTART WAS NOT ATTEMPTED.
