Narrative:

Received clearance to intercept ILS final, descend to 6000 ft and read back. At 7600 ft, approach asked for altitude. When told he said clearance was to 8000 ft, ok maintain 7000 ft. 6000 ft was read back. He said 2 aircraft were calling at same time.
