Narrative:
I took off from bec with partial fuel load. The plan was to pick up a passenger at sgf. However, the flight to sgf consumed more fuel than was planned. I was #4 for the approach to ILS 2. After picking up the passenger, I took off on an IFR flight plan sgf to ojc. Then about 12 mi out of ojc, I told kansas city approach that I was low on fuel, canceled my IFR flight plan and had the airport in sight. Shortly thereafter, I lost power, told approach that I was out of fuel and was going to land on highway united states 69. After receiving fuel from johnson county executive and with the aid of the johnson county sheriff's patrol, I safely took off and landed at johnson county executive just 5 mi away. There was no damage to the aircraft or injury to people on board. Time was not a factor for not refueling at sgf. We had a 30 min wait for arrival of passenger. Main cause was me calculating fuel consumption and time en route.
