Narrative:

I was asked to give my seat to a senior captain (rated in aircraft) deadheading in back of aircraft. He put his son, an adult, in the other seat. He likes to give a lot of commentary, in doing so, he apparently missed a revised clearance from ZDC/ZNY. Maybe he's not as good an instructor/PIC as he thinks he is. One of us (assigned crewmembers) should have stayed in jump seat!
