Narrative:

While taxiing north on taxiway J, we were issued crossing instructions for runway 15. The approaching intersection had 3 different taxiway identifiers. It was our initial understanding that the controller wished for us to cross the approaching intersection (M), when he in fact wished for us to continue on the taxiway to a different intersection. The angle of the airplane and sign position were such that we didn't see the sign for runway 18. 10 ft past the hold lines we realized it was runway 18. Another aircraft was position and hold for takeoff. I believe if the signs for runway 18 were position differently, this could have been prevented.
