Narrative:

X canceled my IFR passing 7000 ft. At 5000 ft ZHU asked my altitude, I reported 5000 ft. Center then advised I was only cleared to 6000 ft. I told center I had canceled at 7000 ft. Center made no comment but the roger I received at 7000 ft may have been for another aircraft, and we probably stepped on each other. No conflict resulted but shows need to rechk all the time.
