Narrative:
Departing oxr for lax landing gear failed to retract. After considering all options and, by that time, our close proximity to lax, we opted to, and continued to lax and landed there without incident. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that he had been questioned by FAA and company for his reasons to go on to destination since the aircraft performance could not be guaranteed with 1 engine out. However, since the distance was small and all over open water (sea level). The decision was no problem. One recommendation came from him and the chief pilot was to have a procedure listed in the 'quick reference checklist.' there was none for this problem of action to take in case the gear does not retract. He further stated that maintenance found a hydraulic system problem that they had attempted to fix previously. It was a jetstream model 32.

Title: FLC OF AN LTT CONTINUED TO DEST TO LAND AFTER THE LNDG GEAR WOULD NOT RETRACT AFTER TKOF.
Narrative: DEPARTING OXR FOR LAX LNDG GEAR FAILED TO RETRACT. AFTER CONSIDERING ALL OPTIONS AND, BY THAT TIME, OUR CLOSE PROX TO LAX, WE OPTED TO, AND CONTINUED TO LAX AND LANDED THERE WITHOUT INCIDENT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT HE HAD BEEN QUESTIONED BY FAA AND COMPANY FOR HIS REASONS TO GO ON TO DEST SINCE THE ACFT PERFORMANCE COULD NOT BE GUARANTEED WITH 1 ENG OUT. HOWEVER, SINCE THE DISTANCE WAS SMALL AND ALL OVER OPEN WATER (SEA LEVEL). THE DECISION WAS NO PROB. ONE RECOMMENDATION CAME FROM HIM AND THE CHIEF PLT WAS TO HAVE A PROC LISTED IN THE 'QUICK REF CHKLIST.' THERE WAS NONE FOR THIS PROB OF ACTION TO TAKE IN CASE THE GEAR DOES NOT RETRACT. HE FURTHER STATED THAT MAINT FOUND A HYD SYS PROB THAT THEY HAD ATTEMPTED TO FIX PREVIOUSLY. IT WAS A JETSTREAM MODEL 32.
