Narrative:

We arrived at operations early morning after a short night. Checking the flight, I saw that there was no takeoff alternate listed. (WX was less than landing minimums.) I called dispatch to find a suitable alternate, which was 200 mi away (wichita). Everything closer had fog or freezing rain. While sitting at the gate, both the first officer and myself were talking to ground to find the latest visibility, to our company operations, to the tug driver, and to the passenger. The audio selector panels in our airplane have mixer switches that allow us to monitor other radios and the public address while having the capability to both transmit and receive on the radio/interphone that we have the transmit button depressed on. When ground told me that the visibility was adequate for takeoff, I said, 'ok, we're ready to go.' ground said, 'push at your discretion.' I told the tug driver that we were ready to push, and because the ground control volume was loud, I turned it off to better hear the tug driver. After pushback and engine start, I was asking the first officer (who had been in sgf before) the proper taxi route to the runway. Upon arrival at the approach end of runway 20, we switched to tower and told them that we were ready for takeoff. Tower said, 'what is your location?' when we told them, they asked, 'did you call for taxi?' we said, 'we thought so.' apparently, while communicating with numerous radios, we both forgot about ground control. I was not monitoring ground and thought the first officer had called for taxi clearance.

Title: FLC OF AN MLG TAXIED FOR TKOF WITH CLRNC.

Narrative: WE ARRIVED AT OPS EARLY MORNING AFTER A SHORT NIGHT. CHKING THE FLT, I SAW THAT THERE WAS NO TKOF ALTERNATE LISTED. (WX WAS LESS THAN LNDG MINIMUMS.) I CALLED DISPATCH TO FIND A SUITABLE ALTERNATE, WHICH WAS 200 MI AWAY (WICHITA). EVERYTHING CLOSER HAD FOG OR FREEZING RAIN. WHILE SITTING AT THE GATE, BOTH THE FO AND MYSELF WERE TALKING TO GND TO FIND THE LATEST VISIBILITY, TO OUR COMPANY OPS, TO THE TUG DRIVER, AND TO THE PAX. THE AUDIO SELECTOR PANELS IN OUR AIRPLANE HAVE MIXER SWITCHES THAT ALLOW US TO MONITOR OTHER RADIOS AND THE PUBLIC ADDRESS WHILE HAVING THE CAPABILITY TO BOTH XMIT AND RECEIVE ON THE RADIO/INTERPHONE THAT WE HAVE THE XMIT BUTTON DEPRESSED ON. WHEN GND TOLD ME THAT THE VISIBILITY WAS ADEQUATE FOR TKOF, I SAID, 'OK, WE'RE READY TO GO.' GND SAID, 'PUSH AT YOUR DISCRETION.' I TOLD THE TUG DRIVER THAT WE WERE READY TO PUSH, AND BECAUSE THE GND CTL VOLUME WAS LOUD, I TURNED IT OFF TO BETTER HEAR THE TUG DRIVER. AFTER PUSHBACK AND ENG START, I WAS ASKING THE FO (WHO HAD BEEN IN SGF BEFORE) THE PROPER TAXI RTE TO THE RWY. UPON ARR AT THE APCH END OF RWY 20, WE SWITCHED TO TWR AND TOLD THEM THAT WE WERE READY FOR TKOF. TWR SAID, 'WHAT IS YOUR LOCATION?' WHEN WE TOLD THEM, THEY ASKED, 'DID YOU CALL FOR TAXI?' WE SAID, 'WE THOUGHT SO.' APPARENTLY, WHILE COMMUNICATING WITH NUMEROUS RADIOS, WE BOTH FORGOT ABOUT GND CTL. I WAS NOT MONITORING GND AND THOUGHT THE FO HAD CALLED FOR TAXI CLRNC.
