Narrative:
A normal takeoff was made from runway 16L in sea. Approximately 200 NM north of sea company maintenance control advised us of debris found on runway 16L -- possibly from our aircraft. As a precaution we returned to the departure airport where a normal approach and landing was made. Subsequent inspection on the ground showed that tread had separated from the left outboard main gear tire.
