In sum: the reporter instructor states student wanted to try night landing at an unlit airport. The student made 3 landing attempts and the instructor made 1 landing attempt before successfully completing the night landing. The airport authority/authorized met the reporter to inform that night operations are prohibited at this airport. The reporter said there is nothing illegal about landing at an unlit airport at night. The airport authority/authorized said that it is illegal when notamed in the facilities directory, which is the case at this airport. The reporter had not checked the facility directory. The reporter got 2 passenger and subsequently took off.

Title: INSTRUCTOR PLT RPTR LANDS AT ARPT AT NIGHT AND TAKES OFF WHERE NIGHT OPS ARE PROHIBITED.
Narrative: IN SUM: THE RPTR INSTRUCTOR STATES STUDENT WANTED TO TRY NIGHT LNDG AT AN UNLIT ARPT. THE STUDENT MADE 3 LNDG ATTEMPTS AND THE INSTRUCTOR MADE 1 LNDG ATTEMPT BEFORE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING THE NIGHT LNDG. THE ARPT AUTH MET THE RPTR TO INFORM THAT NIGHT OPS ARE PROHIBITED AT THIS ARPT. THE RPTR SAID THERE IS NOTHING ILLEGAL ABOUT LNDG AT AN UNLIT ARPT AT NIGHT. THE ARPT AUTH SAID THAT IT IS ILLEGAL WHEN NOTAMED IN THE FACILITIES DIRECTORY, WHICH IS THE CASE AT THIS ARPT. THE RPTR HAD NOT CHKED THE FACILITY DIRECTORY. THE RPTR GOT 2 PAX AND SUBSEQUENTLY TOOK OFF.
