Narrative:

Part 91 flight to repos from yip to dtw for cargo pick-up. 2 stacks of empty pallets were 'secured' on forward cargo deck. Left stack -- 5000 pounds. Slid aft -- probably at rotation -- coming to rest against aft pressure bulkhead. Breaking up upon impact with the aft stops, pallets in the stack punched large holes in the aft bulkhead. Takeoff to landing was 15 mins. The flight was normal in all respects. The damage was discovered by ground. Handlers at dtw. The pallets were secure when the aircraft arrived at yip the day before. I was a part of that crew. Maintenance was performed during the day at yip and the subject stack was probably moved and then replaced without being locked in place. Irregular alignment of some 18250 pound pallets in the stack helped obscure the aft RAIL locks from direct observation. Assumption of pallet security and cursory examination of locks contributed.

Title: CARGO SHIFTED ON TKOF DAMAGING AFT BULKHEAD.

Narrative: PART 91 FLT TO REPOS FROM YIP TO DTW FOR CARGO PICK-UP. 2 STACKS OF EMPTY PALLETS WERE 'SECURED' ON FORWARD CARGO DECK. L STACK -- 5000 LBS. SLID AFT -- PROBABLY AT ROTATION -- COMING TO REST AGAINST AFT PRESSURE BULKHEAD. BREAKING UP UPON IMPACT WITH THE AFT STOPS, PALLETS IN THE STACK PUNCHED LARGE HOLES IN THE AFT BULKHEAD. TKOF TO LNDG WAS 15 MINS. THE FLT WAS NORMAL IN ALL RESPECTS. THE DAMAGE WAS DISCOVERED BY GND. HANDLERS AT DTW. THE PALLETS WERE SECURE WHEN THE ACFT ARRIVED AT YIP THE DAY BEFORE. I WAS A PART OF THAT CREW. MAINT WAS PERFORMED DURING THE DAY AT YIP AND THE SUBJECT STACK WAS PROBABLY MOVED AND THEN REPLACED WITHOUT BEING LOCKED IN PLACE. IRREGULAR ALIGNMENT OF SOME 18250 LB PALLETS IN THE STACK HELPED OBSCURE THE AFT RAIL LOCKS FROM DIRECT OBSERVATION. ASSUMPTION OF PALLET SECURITY AND CURSORY EXAMINATION OF LOCKS CONTRIBUTED.
