Narrative:

We were on a vector for a visual to runway 28L (sfo). ATC called out traffic for runway 28R and I reported we were in IMC. After breaking out of the clouds I requested the position of the other aircraft. We still did not see him. The approach control asked if we had the airport in sight, I said yes. The approach control then said other aircraft has us in sight and would maintain visual. We were cleared for the visual runway 28L. I was in the left seat, first officer flying and never saw the traffic until we got an RA. I looked over and saw the other aircraft taking evasive action. He had apparently overshot the runway 28R final. I checked and we were on the runway 28L localizer course. I saw the other aircraft belly up to us turning away at the same altitude. So we did not take evasive action.

Title: NMAC. NIGHT VISUAL APCH.

Narrative: WE WERE ON A VECTOR FOR A VISUAL TO RWY 28L (SFO). ATC CALLED OUT TFC FOR RWY 28R AND I RPTED WE WERE IN IMC. AFTER BREAKING OUT OF THE CLOUDS I REQUESTED THE POS OF THE OTHER ACFT. WE STILL DID NOT SEE HIM. THE APCH CTL ASKED IF WE HAD THE ARPT IN SIGHT, I SAID YES. THE APCH CTL THEN SAID OTHER ACFT HAS US IN SIGHT AND WOULD MAINTAIN VISUAL. WE WERE CLRED FOR THE VISUAL RWY 28L. I WAS IN THE L SEAT, FO FLYING AND NEVER SAW THE TFC UNTIL WE GOT AN RA. I LOOKED OVER AND SAW THE OTHER ACFT TAKING EVASIVE ACTION. HE HAD APPARENTLY OVERSHOT THE RWY 28R FINAL. I CHKED AND WE WERE ON THE RWY 28L LOC COURSE. I SAW THE OTHER ACFT BELLY UP TO US TURNING AWAY AT THE SAME ALT. SO WE DID NOT TAKE EVASIVE ACTION.
