Narrative:
En route from 43F to ane at 3100 ft MSL approach when I was 3 NM southeast of buffalo, mn to get ATC flight following to ane. The controller had radar contact 4 NM southeast of buffalo, gave me a squawk code, cleared me to enter msp class B at or below 3500 ft, and suggested a heading of 070 degrees due to strong wind from the northwest. I had microphone in sight and I appeared on course to ane. When I had ane in sight I notified ATC and ATC canceled flight following and advised me to watch for possible traffic from microphone which was at my 3 O'clock. It appeared to me that the wind had blown me further off course that I had expected and I felt that I may be near on in microphone's class D airspace. I turned away to the north and then proceeded to ane. I do not believe that I entered microphone's airspace, but without DME, I cannot be certain. The controller did not notify me of any conflict either. To prevent a re-occurrence I plan to follow the gep VORTAC and use the 085 degree radial when en route from the west.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: UNAUTH PENETRATION OF AIRSPACE -- ATA D.
Narrative: ENRTE FROM 43F TO ANE AT 3100 FT MSL APCH WHEN I WAS 3 NM SE OF BUFFALO, MN TO GET ATC FLT FOLLOWING TO ANE. THE CTLR HAD RADAR CONTACT 4 NM SE OF BUFFALO, GAVE ME A SQUAWK CODE, CLRED ME TO ENTER MSP CLASS B AT OR BELOW 3500 FT, AND SUGGESTED A HDG OF 070 DEGS DUE TO STRONG WIND FROM THE NW. I HAD MIC IN SIGHT AND I APPEARED ON COURSE TO ANE. WHEN I HAD ANE IN SIGHT I NOTIFIED ATC AND ATC CANCELED FLT FOLLOWING AND ADVISED ME TO WATCH FOR POSSIBLE TFC FROM MIC WHICH WAS AT MY 3 O'CLOCK. IT APPEARED TO ME THAT THE WIND HAD BLOWN ME FURTHER OFF COURSE THAT I HAD EXPECTED AND I FELT THAT I MAY BE NEAR ON IN MIC'S CLASS D AIRSPACE. I TURNED AWAY TO THE N AND THEN PROCEEDED TO ANE. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT I ENTERED MIC'S AIRSPACE, BUT WITHOUT DME, I CANNOT BE CERTAIN. THE CTLR DID NOT NOTIFY ME OF ANY CONFLICT EITHER. TO PREVENT A RE-OCCURRENCE I PLAN TO FOLLOW THE GEP VORTAC AND USE THE 085 DEG RADIAL WHEN ENRTE FROM THE W.
