Narrative:
Flew one approach east of airport, no ice. Flew second approach west of grand forks airport, localizer back course, runway 17R. 3000 ft abeam the runway my flight instructor asked for quick radar vectors back to the airport. He also reported we were picking up ice. ATC vectored a dc-9, a caravan and a citation jet in front of us. We ended up 20 DME north of the airport behind the 3 aircraft. All the aircraft vectored in front of us were icing equipped. We landed safely with 1/2 mixed rime/clear ice. If ATC had not vectored us around the other 3 aircraft, this would not have happened. ATC needs to realize that just because I'm not burning up the money as the other 3 aircraft, and since we reported icing and were not equipped for icing, we should have had priority.

HE ALSO RPTED WE WERE PICKING UP ICE. ATC VECTORED A DC-9, A CARAVAN AND A CITATION JET IN FRONT OF US. WE ENDED UP 20 DME N OF THE ARPT BEHIND THE 3 ACFT.
