Narrative:

Aircraft was landed hard while trying to return to base with rapidly deteriorating WX. At XA20 report WX was clear 7 mi at XA30 it was reported on first ATIS of the morning as 100 ft obscured and 1/4 mi with fog. FSS forecast 3 mi with patchy fog when I called at XB45 for XC15 takeoff. The problem is getting WX during that time of the night, many stations are not open until 6 or 7 am. Once lft tower was open I had accurate WX for there (not just forecast).
