Narrative:

On a night IFR training flight I was instructing a student on how to fly an NDB approach - to make it easier on the student I was making the radio calls. We passed the FAF without reporting it. We realized it when I reported the miss. At that time the tower reminded us we hadn't reported the FAF inbound. Because of my intense focus of attention on my student's actions, not wanting his 1ST NDB approach to go bad, the call to niagara tower went unnoticed. There was no conflict, near miss, or problem and it was a learning experience for both of us, that will not happen again.
