Narrative:
Aborted takeoff due to pitch trim out of range warning. Noted pitch trim indicator needle fluctuating. Returned to gate and called maintenance control. Maintenance control deferred indicator, one of provisions said pitch trim out of range horn must work. It works, but it indicated a problem exists when in fact one did not (checked status of stabilizer manually). Maintenance clt indicated we could go and we did. However, after much thought, I am not sure. I am sure safety was not compromised, but I am concerned as to the legality of the operation. Note: no out of trim horn was heard, as trim indicator had settled down.
