Narrative:
GPWS alert -- terrain -- at 5000 flight MSL level, 245 KTS clean, vectored via socal approach control. Over terrain from pmd via lynnx 7 arrival. From janny intersection via radar vector 220- 200 degree magneto heading, 245 KTS, 5000 ft MSL, over rising terrain. At approximately 360 degrees 20-15 DME, GPWS warning went off in A310 airbus cockpit, initiated immediate change in altitude and full power. Climb to 8000 ft MSL and informed controller of climb due to 8000 ft returned to 5000 ft and controled approach.
