Narrative:
We took off from runway 05 at pvd with a clearance to 3000 ft passing 2000 ft we were given a heading to 270 degrees and a traffic call at 4000 ft at our 1 O'clock. While raising the flaps/slats, turning and leveling off we received a TA for the traffic. I was looking outside for the traffic while the copilot who was the PF was leveling off. When I looked inside the cockpit (copilot had the traffic in sight) we had climbed to 3400 ft. I said 'watch your altitude' and we went right back to 3000 ft. The traffic passed above and behind us to our right.
