Narrative:
We departed guam with a clearance to FL350. At approximately FL250, we requested FL310, as a final. We were given FL310 and proceeded to climb to, and reported level at FL310, to guam center. Radar service was terminated, after reporting level at FL310. First officer did the position report at noses intersection, and mistakenly gave FL350 as the cruise flight level. At pakdo intersection we reported, correctly, level at FL310 and requested a climb to FL350. Tokyo radio cleared us to FL350, we climbed from FL310 to FL350, and reported level, to naha. At no time did the aircraft deviate from its assigned altitude. Later naha relayed message from oakland center, requesting us to contact them (oak), and relayed the phone number. ATC communication from guam center to oakland, that we were cleared to FL310, apparently didn't trigger a conflict with the erroneous FL350 report, because we received no SELCAL to verify our 'real' altitude.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FO GAVE INCORRECT ALT, IN POS RPT, AND CORRECTED AT FOLLOWING RPTING POINT, ON A PACIFIC RTE.
Narrative: WE DEPARTED GUAM WITH A CLRNC TO FL350. AT APPROX FL250, WE REQUESTED FL310, AS A FINAL. WE WERE GIVEN FL310 AND PROCEEDED TO CLB TO, AND RPTED LEVEL AT FL310, TO GUAM CTR. RADAR SVC WAS TERMINATED, AFTER RPTING LEVEL AT FL310. FO DID THE POS RPT AT NOSES INTXN, AND MISTAKENLY GAVE FL350 AS THE CRUISE FLT LEVEL. AT PAKDO INTXN WE RPTED, CORRECTLY, LEVEL AT FL310 AND REQUESTED A CLB TO FL350. TOKYO RADIO CLRED US TO FL350, WE CLBED FROM FL310 TO FL350, AND RPTED LEVEL, TO NAHA. AT NO TIME DID THE ACFT DEVIATE FROM ITS ASSIGNED ALT. LATER NAHA RELAYED MESSAGE FROM OAKLAND CTR, REQUESTING US TO CONTACT THEM (OAK), AND RELAYED THE PHONE NUMBER. ATC COM FROM GUAM CTR TO OAKLAND, THAT WE WERE CLRED TO FL310, APPARENTLY DIDN'T TRIGGER A CONFLICT WITH THE ERRONEOUS FL350 RPT, BECAUSE WE RECEIVED NO SELCAL TO VERIFY OUR 'REAL' ALT.
