Narrative:
Statements by chairman of the mayors committee, released on june/mon/55 newark airport, 1955, 'there is a good and substantial reason to believe that a brief, prompt survey of major airports through the nation will disclose that newark airport is by far the most vulnerable of any other airport by reason of the surrounding highly congested population which is in close proximity to the nations pioneer airport. Senate bill no. 218 was approved by governor designed for the safety and comforts of the airport neighbors. In addition to 4000 acres of land for operational area, it would include 6000 acres of buffer zones. These buffer zones were to extend at least 1200 ft under the flight path from the end of each runway to the nearest neighboring property. Since feb/xx/52, the cabin attendant, FAA, port authority/authorized, airline officials and representatives of new jersey did not hold paramount the safety, health and welfare of the public and abused the public interest in that they encountered the course of professional activities. On march/xx/95, the newhouse news service reported general manager of newark airport announced that by mid summer of 1995 newark international airport runways 22L-4R and 22R-4L will be extended south an additional 1000-1800 ft into elizabeth, a town which has had a history of early mishaps which closed newark airport. Mr officials, engineers of the port authority/authorized, FAA and the airlines are aware of an agreement not to extend the runways no further than the present 9800 ft of runway 4L-22R and 8200 ft of runway 4R-22L as assured by the port authority/authorized and the FAA that extending the runway to 10000 ft suitable for the largest of jets was perfunctionary. Executive director of the port authority assured that there was 'no intention of using newark airport for big jet.' on feb/1/95 a new jersey senate probe said closing down newark airport should be the last resort. Report for airport hazards lies equally on the airlines that use it, the airport itself and the port authority of new york and new jersey who own it. On feb/xx/52 newark airport was closed. On feb/15/52 it was reported that senator (d-co) chairman of the interstate commerce committee was certain the committee and staff would recommend abandonment of airport runways, etc, and that newark airport had outgrown itself and should be moved to a more outlying area. In 1991 it was reported the FAA weighed using mcguire air force base for freight and commercial flts. Federal and state official established without question that there is (need for an) additional jetport serving the greater new york metropolitan area, 'but where.' P.south. A probe and hold on all projects in the plans of development of project 'newark 2000.'

Title: A RETIRED ARPT EMPLOYEE TAKES UP THE BANNER IN PROTEST OF ANY FURTHER EXPANSION OF EWR ARPT.
Narrative: STATEMENTS BY CHAIRMAN OF THE MAYORS COMMITTEE, RELEASED ON JUNE/MON/55 NEWARK ARPT, 1955, 'THERE IS A GOOD AND SUBSTANTIAL REASON TO BELIEVE THAT A BRIEF, PROMPT SURVEY OF MAJOR ARPTS THROUGH THE NATION WILL DISCLOSE THAT NEWARK ARPT IS BY FAR THE MOST VULNERABLE OF ANY OTHER ARPT BY REASON OF THE SURROUNDING HIGHLY CONGESTED POPULATION WHICH IS IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE NATIONS PIONEER ARPT. SENATE BILL NO. 218 WAS APPROVED BY GOVERNOR DESIGNED FOR THE SAFETY AND COMFORTS OF THE ARPT NEIGHBORS. IN ADDITION TO 4000 ACRES OF LAND FOR OPERATIONAL AREA, IT WOULD INCLUDE 6000 ACRES OF BUFFER ZONES. THESE BUFFER ZONES WERE TO EXTEND AT LEAST 1200 FT UNDER THE FLT PATH FROM THE END OF EACH RWY TO THE NEAREST NEIGHBORING PROPERTY. SINCE FEB/XX/52, THE CAB, FAA, PORT AUTH, AIRLINE OFFICIALS AND REPRESENTATIVES OF NEW JERSEY DID NOT HOLD PARAMOUNT THE SAFETY, HEALTH AND WELFARE OF THE PUBLIC AND ABUSED THE PUBLIC INTEREST IN THAT THEY ENCOUNTERED THE COURSE OF PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES. ON MARCH/XX/95, THE NEWHOUSE NEWS SVC RPTED GENERAL MGR OF NEWARK ARPT ANNOUNCED THAT BY MID SUMMER OF 1995 NEWARK INTL ARPT RWYS 22L-4R AND 22R-4L WILL BE EXTENDED S AN ADDITIONAL 1000-1800 FT INTO ELIZABETH, A TOWN WHICH HAS HAD A HISTORY OF EARLY MISHAPS WHICH CLOSED NEWARK ARPT. MR OFFICIALS, ENGINEERS OF THE PORT AUTH, FAA AND THE AIRLINES ARE AWARE OF AN AGREEMENT NOT TO EXTEND THE RWYS NO FURTHER THAN THE PRESENT 9800 FT OF RWY 4L-22R AND 8200 FT OF RWY 4R-22L AS ASSURED BY THE PORT AUTH AND THE FAA THAT EXTENDING THE RWY TO 10000 FT SUITABLE FOR THE LARGEST OF JETS WAS PERFUNCTIONARY. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE PORT AUTHORITY ASSURED THAT THERE WAS 'NO INTENTION OF USING NEWARK ARPT FOR BIG JET.' ON FEB/1/95 A NEW JERSEY SENATE PROBE SAID CLOSING DOWN NEWARK ARPT SHOULD BE THE LAST RESORT. RPT FOR ARPT HAZARDS LIES EQUALLY ON THE AIRLINES THAT USE IT, THE ARPT ITSELF AND THE PORT AUTHORITY OF NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY WHO OWN IT. ON FEB/XX/52 NEWARK ARPT WAS CLOSED. ON FEB/15/52 IT WAS RPTED THAT SENATOR (D-CO) CHAIRMAN OF THE INTERSTATE COMMERCE COMMITTEE WAS CERTAIN THE COMMITTEE AND STAFF WOULD RECOMMEND ABANDONMENT OF ARPT RWYS, ETC, AND THAT NEWARK ARPT HAD OUTGROWN ITSELF AND SHOULD BE MOVED TO A MORE OUTLYING AREA. IN 1991 IT WAS RPTED THE FAA WEIGHED USING MCGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE FOR FREIGHT AND COMMERCIAL FLTS. FEDERAL AND STATE OFFICIAL ESTABLISHED WITHOUT QUESTION THAT THERE IS (NEED FOR AN) ADDITIONAL JETPORT SERVING THE GREATER NEW YORK METROPOLITAN AREA, 'BUT WHERE.' P.S. A PROBE AND HOLD ON ALL PROJECTS IN THE PLANS OF DEVELOPMENT OF PROJECT 'NEWARK 2000.'
